Pohutukawa Landing is a new Metlifecare retirement village in Beach lands. The client had secured a large tract of land and had already built stand-alone homes. They wanted to create two-storey amenities block at the heart of the development, which would house a kitchen, bar, swimming pool and gym on the ground floor, with living units on the first floor.

We have built strong relationships with both the design and client teams, which meant we incorporated the best of everyone’s thinking into the construction of the building. As an early adopter of designing multi-storey timber structures, we advocated for use of this material from both a sustainability and cost perspective. The design of the high-care facility features cross-laminate timber (CLT) walls, helping to make it weathertight as quickly as possible. Offsite cladding for the façade increases construction efficiencies. Once complete, the building will achieve a Greenstar 6 rating.

By using a repetitive, simplistic structural solution, the client has benefitted from efficiencies and faster, easier construction.
